Since the beginning of this year, when the whole world has come under the grip of this COVID-19 pandemic, all school doors all over the world were closed for many months for containing the spread of coronavirus.
We have seen during this crisis, large-scale efforts were made to use internet technology to support our education system. However, this crisis has made us to face the various challenges of technology, particularly in the field of education, as it has affected almost every family in the world.
The following were a few issues that have come up that need to be addressed sooner than later.
- Internet connectivity issues
Because of regular usage of the internet, students of many areas were suffering from connectivity problems that need to be addressed.
- Student’s lack of accessing equipment
People under this crisis realized that the proper accessing equipment will be needed by the students to do serious studies.
- Managing security risks
Many students perhaps may not realize that there exists a big security threat when they are online and cybercriminals can take advantage of the current situation.
- Inability to provide in-person labs remotely
Those students who have enrolled in certain lab-based courses like the engineering or biological sciences may face unique challenges because of COVID-19.
- Software license restrictions
Many students have to log in to certain websites during the study where there are various restrictions due to software license issues.
- Teachers who are not familiar with online teaching
Even today, many teachers are continuing with traditional methods of teaching. Under this condition, they were unable to contribute to teaching.
To make sure that digital technology offers the same access to education, it is necessary to close all kinds of digital divides. Extra efforts are required to provide affordable internet facilities to empower those people who are excluded.
